This 2.5 hour professional development training centers around supporting teachers and district leaders through a comprehensive examination of what it means to be "culturally competent"
Cultural competence is a set of congruent behaviors, attitudes, and policies that come together in a system, agency or among professionals and enable that system, agency or those professions to work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
During this training. Attendees will be explore five elements of organizational cultural competency to determine the level of organizational health that exists within their organization and how it impacts their ability to work effectively within a group of diverse peers. They will also examine their own level of cultural competency by applying the six levels of cultural competency to their own professional practices and personal biases.
The objective of this workshop is to increase teachers' and administrators' ability to perform effectively in a cross cultural context and while considering historical issues in education, such as those issues relating to racism, discrimination, access to quality instruction and facilities, and significant disparities in academic outcomes.
Workshop format:
Lecture based/ Small group/ independent practice
