I'm a 39 yr old single mother, raising a 15 yr old girl with Non Verbal Learning Disorder. I'm in my 5th year of teaching, after starting out at therapeutic on the south side of Chicago. Most of my former students are either locked up or dead. I also taught at a school in the same charter network as [friend].
As you can imagine, I'm at a point where I feel very frustrated with our profession due to the very things you wrote about. When I saw your book, I thought "Here is a life preserver...Grab it."
Your book has made me laugh out loud with your humorous quips. You have truly made me feel I am not alone in my feelings of frustration but more importantly your book has provided me with insightful ways of dealing with frustration over things I can't change like high stakes testing. Also, you have ACTUAL coping techniques in your "Self Preservation" chapter that work. As the school year comes to an end, I feel as if your book is exactly what I need to not "keep driving past my school and take a flight to Vegas" next school year.
Thank you for the guidance. I'll be spreading the word amongst practitioners that they need your book.
Sincerely,
Christine
